Entering the chest by any incision requires the compression or division of nerves. Thoracic surgery patients often have numbness adjacent to their incision traveling around to the front. Coronary artery bypass patients commonly have numbness over the left chest due to harvest of the left mammary artery.
The good news is all of these are temporay problems. The body is resilient. Almost all of these tinglings with resolve within six months.
