This is extemely rare. Although these operations are a big deal, they are routine for us. I almost never lose a patient on the operating table, and stroke rates are very low. But remember, if you are very sick going in, your risks are higher and your recovery will be prolonged. We usually know this ahead of time and will discuss it with you and your family.
